Isn’t this wonderful? It’s a detail from one of a series of Kinshasa street scenes by Maludi. You can see the landmarks of Stade des Martyres on the left, and Place Victoire on the right. All life is there if you look closely: taxi buses, bread vendors, traffic police, and plenty of hustle.
I couldn’t afford the price tag for this one, but I’m determined to find out more about the artist and perhaps visit his studio.

Wow – this is great! Do you have any information about Malodi? Links to his work? I’d love to learn more.
There’s nothing on the web, to my knowledge, but I’ll certainly try to find out more. In the meantime, I’ll stick some close-ups on the photo page for you.
Fab… would love to learn more. Been looking around at Rwandan art, but nothing has jumped out at me. This did. Wish we had an equivalent here…
Please find out more
Would you mind if I repost this, with attribution to the artist and your site, on my blog?
Nice of you to ask. Go for it. I’m afraid I haven’t yet tracked down the artist to ask his permission, but I hope he won’t mind me promoting his work in this way.

Fred, I found this entry via Scarlett Lion and this is really amazing. Please let us know if you find out more – and if you are going on an expedition to his studio, would love to join. I’d like to post on my blog as well with a link, what say you?
Sounds fine, with the same proviso that I mentioned before: we have to trust that he won’t mind the free publicity. It would be fun to meet up in any case. I’m hoping for some leads tomorrow.
Makes a fantastic computer desktop background too. How much was the pricetag on the original, just out of curiosity?
somewhere around the $2K mark. (It’s quite big.) I managed to track down Maludi this weekend, so can put you in touch if you like. More pics and info coming soon, once current internet snafus are resolved.
